About

Thanks for visiting!

I met my good wife while cycling on the Oregon Coast. Forgetting to pack bike shorts and neglecting to train for the physical challenges of the trip, reveal oceans about how I approach life: with passion and urgency — yes, but sometimes with a scarcity of forethought.

While I have a fascination for watercolour and poetry, (and a weakness for Rough Collies), marriage and family articles dominate this site. There’s nothing I won’t do to strengthen or save a marriage.

When I’m not chasing my wife, I counsel married couples and write articles from my heart that matter to the family. I’m a former broadcaster, management consultant, and founder/executive director of a marriage and family organisation.

If you are visiting here for the first time, “The Road Ahead” explains my motivation for blogging.

No Straight Lines” lays bare my backstory.

What She Gave Up” is a tribute to the woman of character whom God has gifted me.

If you are curious about the title of my blog, Peace in the Home is derived from the Hebrew, “shalom bayit”, an overarching model for the home rooted in ancient Hebrew scripture (Torah), supported throughout the Greek New Testament, and expanded in Jewish Rabbinic literature.

Peace in the Home isn’t about a lack of domestic violence, as many feminists claim. Rather, it’s an ancient and pan-cultural biblical blueprint for the home — how it is structured and how it works best. The marriage-centred home is a mini sanctuary where God is worshipped by how we live and relate.

Psalm 128 paints a beautiful picture of shalom bayit using botanical metaphors: The home is headed by a husband and father who has a genuine relationship with God (v. 1). Blessing overflows to his work (v. 2), to his wife (v. 3a a fruitful vine), and then to their children (v. 3b olive shoots), to the community (v. 5) and eventually to their grandchildren and the nation (v. 6)

I’d love to hear from you. Start the ball rolling using the contact form found in the menu above.

Warmly,
robert
